Detroit Energy Pension Lawsuit Covers Hundreds, Retiree Says

A Detroit Edison Co. retiree who says the company shortchanged workers’ retirement benefits by failing to explain the downsides of switching pension plans asked a federal judge to certify her case as a class action covering about 450 people.

The proposed class includes hundreds of DTE retirees who chose to transfer from the company’s traditional pension plan to its cash balance plan in 2002, Leslie Nolan said in a motion filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
