Denver Area’s Smog Woes are ‘Serious,’ EPA Determines

Denver’s smog problems have gotten worse, the Environmental Protection Agency determined in downgrading the ozone pollution rating for the the seven-county metro region.

EPA’s Dec. 16 reclassification of the urban area’s nonattainment status to from “moderate” to “serious” means the region with a population of 3.5 million will have to adopt more aggressive strategies to tackle the air pollution problem.
