Delays in Green Standards Threaten EU Emission Cuts, Report Says

The European Union’s process of setting mandatory green standards for energy-consuming products has ground to a halt, leading to unnecessary annual carbon dioxide emissions equivalent to about 5 million cars’ fuel use, according to a report from two environmental groups.

Under the EU Ecodesign Directive, the bloc sets product energy consumption and other resource-use standards according to regular working plans. But only about one out of four measures in the 2016-2019 plan were finalized, and the plan for 2020-2024 has yet to be published, the groups said.
