Dakota Access Pipeline Operators Face Potential Safety Fine (2)

A federal pipeline regulatory agency has put the operators of the Dakota Access pipeline on notice of probable safety violations—including for not looking at spill risks—and a proposed fine of $93,200, according to a new notice filed in a Washington, D.C., court.

The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration identified seven probable violations Thursday, including a failure to study the consequences of a spill in “high consequence areas” and a failure to correct an issue with its relief valves.
