D.C. Circuit Skeptical of Criticisms of FERC Gas Pipeline Review

A three-judge appeals court panel in Washington on Friday appeared skeptical of arguments that federal energy regulators ignored environmental impacts when they approved a proposed natural gas pipeline project in Pennsylvania.

The case before the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit could have wide-ranging implications for how the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission reviews the need for new gas pipelines. It comes at a time when FERC Chairman Richard Glick is moving to cast a wider net when considering greenhouse gas emissions and climate change in the agency’s pipeline reviews.
