Illinois Gov. J. B. Pritzker (D) is expected to sign two bills that would regulate ethylene oxide emissions and the companies that use the gas in industrial processes.
The bills, approved May 30 by the state Senate and sent the governor for his signature, would create a new permitting regime for a Lake County, Ill.-based facility operated by personal-care products manufacturer Vantage Specialty Chemicals Inc. It also would impose stricter environmental standards on medical sterilization facilities in the state operated by Willowbrook, Ill. Sterigenics U.S. LLC facility and a Medline Industries Inc. located in Waukegan, Ill.
