Conservative Lobbyists Ask GOP Lawmakers to Back a Carbon Tax

Dozens of conservatives from red districts in states like Kentucky, Michigan, and Virginia fanned out across Capitol Hill Tuesday to lobby lawmakers for a free-market solution to climate change.

The fly-in event, sponsored by the Citizens’ Climate Lobby, has been running for years. But, for the first time, organizers say they’re no longer fighting perceptions among some Republican lawmakers that climate science isn’t real. The group advocates for a national carbon fee paid back to the public as a dividend, with the government keeping none of the revenue.
