Conservation Groups Challenge Bull Trout Recovery Plan

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s recovery plan for bull trout doesn’t comply with the Endangered Species Act because it doesn’t contain objective criteria for success, conservation organizations claim in a complaint filed Nov 18.

Save the Bull Trout, Friends of the Wild Swan, and Alliance for the Wild Rockies claim that the long-awaited recovery plan won’t thwart the extinction of or even promote possible recovery of the bull trout.

The plan doesn’t contain “objective, measurable recovery criteria,” instead leaving it to the FWS to determine, unilaterally and subjectively, when the threat to the fish is effectively managed, the groups...
