Conservation Group Sues Corps Alleging
Water Act Violations at Columbia River Dams

SEATTLE—The Columbia Riverkeeper sued the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers July 31 alleging violations of the Clean Water Act for discharges of oil—some contaminated with carcinogenic polychlorinated biphenyls—from eight dams on the river that marks the boundary between Oregon and Washington (Columbia Riverkeeper v. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; Columbia Riverkeeper v. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; Columbia Riverkeeper v. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers).

Riverkeeper filed suits in the federal district courts of Western Washington and Eastern Washington as well as in Oregon over discharges into the Columbia and its tributary—the Snake River—at Bonneville Dam,...
