Conservation Fund Backers Seek Leverage in Delay of Spending Bill

Senators hoping to breathe new life into an expired conservation fund slammed the brakes Dec. 19 on a quick floor vote to extend government spending beyond Dec. 21, hoping to squeeze out a victory just days before the current Congress ends.

Many House and Senate backers from both parties want to permanently extend the fund, which is used to expand both national and urban local parks, walking and biking trails.
