Congress Growing Impatient With EPA Inaction on Fluorochemicals (1)

The EPA will determine by the end of this year whether new, binding regulations on a toxic synthetic chemical are needed, but lawmakers on Capitol Hill said that timeline isn’t fast enough.

Republicans and Democrats asked the top drinking water official at the Environmental Protection Agency to take concrete steps sooner to address the growing problem of contamination by a class of perfluorinated chemicals known as PFAS.

They also criticized the Pentagon’s response to the contamination crisis, which has been especially acute on and around military installations where these chemicals had been widely used for years.
