Congress ‘Dropped the Ball’ on Chemicals Law, Carper Says (1)

Neither industries nor environmental health advocates are satisfied with the chemicals law, and Congress shares the blame for that, the chairman of the Senate committee that spearheaded the overhaul of the law said Wednesday.

Congress had high expectations for the Lautenberg Chemical Safety Act, which overhauled the Toxic Substances Control Act in 2016 for the first time in 40 years, Senate Environment and Public Works Chairman Tom Carper (D-Del.) said during a hearing that marked six years since the amended statute became law.
