FirstEnergy Faces Suit to Block ‘Corrupt’ Nuclear Subsidies (1)

Ohio lawmakers haven’t repealed a $900 million subsidy for two nuclear power plants despite a sprawling $60 million federal bribery probe into the program, so the cities of Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio, are urging a state court to invalidate the alleged “product of corruption.”

The suit, filed Tuesday, claims that in nine weeks, ratepayers in the two cities must start contributing to the subsidy enacted through House Bill 6, which provides cash to prop up two Energy Harbor nuclear plants in northern Ohio.
