Colorado’s Tighter Methane Rules to Hit Arch Coal Mine Next Year

Colorado in 2020 is set to consider stricter rules designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from facilities like Arch Coal Inc.'s West Elk mine, the single largest source of methane emissions in the state.

The state Air Pollution Control Division is preparing to recommend regulations to address emissions of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, under landmark climate change legislation passed by the Colorado General Assembly and signed by Gov. Jared Polis (D) in May, Andrew Bare, spokesman for the division, said in a phone interview Dec. 18.
