Colorado Oil, Gas Leasing Draws New Conservationist Challenge

The Bureau of Land Management’s plan to open nearly one million acres in Colorado to oil and gas drilling threatens an area treasured for its “scenic beauty” and “clean air and water,” according to a lawsuit filed in a Colorado federal court.

The dispute centers on the agency’s approval of a new Uncompahgre Field Office Resource Management Plan, which opens more than 870,000 acres of public land in western Colorado to oil and gas leasing.
