Climate Overlooked in Interior’s Leasing Report, Democrats Say

The Interior Department’s recent plan for modernizing its oil and gas leasing programs is a missed opportunity to address climate change, House Democrats said Thursday.

Proposed leasing program changes published last week are necessary, “but a glaring omission from the report was any discussion on the emissions that result from oil and gas drilling on public lands,” Rep. Alan Lowenthal (D-Calif.) said at a House Natural Resources subcommittee hearing.
