Citigroup Slag Pile Threatens Mississippi River, Lawsuit Says

A Citigroup Inc. subsidiary is responsible for cleaning up slag from an aluminum smelter that has migrated onto a neighboring property and could reach the Mississippi River, according to a new complaint in federal district court.

CTI Development LLC is seeking reimbursement for the costs of cleaning up the slag, which Citigroup subsidiary MRC Holdings Inc. has yet to address, CTI said in a Superfund citizen suit filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.
