Cities Throw Support to Rhode Island in State’s Climate Lawsuit

Local government leaders and foreign relations scholars rallied behind Rhode Island in its climate liability case, telling judges that the suit isn’t a matter for federal courts.

States, cities, and counties are entitled to tailor their claims in order to be heard within local courts, according to an amicus brief filed Friday by mayors and municipal lawyers to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
