Citgo Pays Nearly $20 Million in Louisiana Oil Spill Damages (1)

Citgo Petroleum Corp. will pay $19.7 million to restore natural resources affected by a 2006 oil spill in southern Louisiana, according to a proposed consent decree filed Thursday in federal district court.

The U.S. alleged millions of gallons of oil overflowed from two of Citgo’s wastewater storage tanks at its Lake Charles Refinery in June 2006. The tanks’ secondary containment was breached, allowing oil to flow into an adjacent waterway and then into the Calcasieu River.
