Chinese Recycling Ban Displacing a Massive Amount of Plastic: Study

China’s decision to impose tougher restrictions on recycling imports would result in some 122 million tons of plastic being displaced by 2030, according to a study released June 20.

The research article by three University of Georgia researchers adds statistical heft to the impact of the Chinese recycling ban that’s reverberating throughout the global recycling industry. Those 122 million tons translate into about 20 tons per minute of plastic being displaced for the next 12 years.
