China’s Foreign Investment Projects Transfer Carbon Emissions Too

A $1 trillion initiative by China to build energy projects and expand infrastructure, trade, and other economic development to other Asian countries and beyond is also offshoring something else: carbon emissions.

While China’s own emissions have somewhat stabilized in the past three years, they are once again inching up as a result of economic incentives that have spurred industrial growth. The country’s Belt and Road Initiative is also sending those emissions elsewhere.
