Bulgaria is having a second go at building what would be one of the biggest nuclear plants in the region in the last decades, amid interest from Chinese investors.
The cabinet will ask parliament to lift a six-year ban on the 2,000-megawatt nuclear power plant at Belene, on the Danube river, and start a tender inviting strategic investors, the Energy Ministry in Sofia said in a May 14 emailed statement.
China National Nuclear Corporation has expressed interest in the project since 2016 and held talks with Bulgarian Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova and Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev
