Chicago won’t let a metal shredder go up in a community overburdened with industrial pollution, ending a years-long environmental justice fight between residents and a recycling company.

The Chicago Department of Public Health on Friday denied permits for Reserve Management Group’s Southside Recycling Project, set to go up in an area on the city’s Southeast Side.
