A federal district court order barring Steven Donziger from raising funds by selling interests in a much-litigated foreign judgment against Chevron Corp. was too ambiguous to be enforceable, the Second Circuit ruled Thursday.
Because the order wasn’t clear, the lower court was wrong to hold Donziger in contempt for engaging in that conduct, according to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. The appeals court vacated a more than $666,000 sanction issued against Donziger.
