Chemical Industry to Keep Pushing for Exceptions to PFAS Ban

The chemical industry will continue to advocate for emergency exceptions to broad bans by New York and other states on firefighting foam and equipment containing fluorinated chemicals known as PFAS.

In response to a legislative ban approved by New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D), the American Chemistry Council said Dec. 24 that it supports an approach taken by several states to allow the use of PFAS-based aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) in emergencies, while banning it in training and heavily restricting it in testing.
