Chemical and pesticide manufacturers that want to reduce their use of animals in product tests can use nonanimal skin tests instead, the EPA said in an interim policy announced April 10.
Although open to public comment through June 9, the policy will be effective immediately and apply to toxicity test data that manufacturers submit to comply with either the Toxic Substances Control Act or the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act, Nancy Beck, the Environmental Protection Agency’s deputy assistant administrator for chemical safety and pollution prevention, said.
