Green Groups to Appeal Trump-Era Environmental Review Changes

Environmental groups will challenge a Virginia federal court’s decision that they can’t proceed in their lawsuit against the Trump administration’s changes to the National Environmental Policy Act review process.

The rule by the White House Council on Environmental Quality exempted some activities from NEPA review, and it removed a requirement that agencies study the indirect and cumulative impacts of a proposed action. The rule also removed a requirement that all reasonable alternatives must be considered.

Wild Virginia, Defenders of Wildlife, and 15 other groups argued the rule may lead agencies to make uninformed decisions that will harm the environment. But ...
