Challenge to Western States’ Gas Leases Is Too Late, Court Told

Environmental and public health groups waited too long to challenge the federal government’s approval of oil and gas lease sales on land in Colorado, New Mexico, and other western states, an industry association told a federal court in Washington D.C.

WildEarth Guardians and Physicians for Social Responsibility argue the Bureau of Land Management failed to properly study the impact of greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the leases. The groups seek an order vacating the lease authorizations and directing the agency to take a hard look as required by the National Environmental Policy Act, according to the complaint.
