Challenge to Federal Protections for Rare Arachnid Dismissed

Williamson County, Texas, and individual John Yearwood can’t pursue their claim that federal protections for the rare, orange, spider-like Bone Cave harvestman are unconstitutional after the federal government moved to delist the species, the Fifth Circuit ruled Friday.

Bone Cave harvestman are tiny arachnids known to only live in caves within a 150-square-mile of two counties in Texas. It was first added to the endangered species list in 1988 as Bee Creek harvestman, then listed as Bone Cave harvestman in 1993 after scientists discovered two separate species.
