Carolinas Could See Offshore Wind Farms Under Interior Plan

The Interior Department is seeking to sell wind leases in Atlantic waters near North and South Carolina, part of its effort to accelerate renewable power development along almost all U.S. coasts.

  • The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management outlined plans for a lease sale as soon as next year of nearly 128,000 acres in the Carolina Long Bay area in a proposed sale notice
    • The agency is considering dividing the territory into three separate leases and exploring a new auction format that would give a potential advantage to bidders making contributions to U.S. workforce training and manufacturing
