Removing carbon dioxide from fossil fuels is a critical part of the Biden administration’s overall goal of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm told House appropriators Thursday.
“We need both renewables and carbon management strategies in order to get to our goals,” Granholm told the House Appropriations Energy and Water Development Subcommittee. It’s also a “huge jobs opportunity” for communities that have been left behind, including coal communities, Granholm said.
President Joe Biden’s American Jobs Plan proposes the creation of several carbon capture demonstration projects in traditional fossil fuel-producing communities to deploy the technology.
