Canyon Mine Approval Facing Appeal From Environmental Groups (1)

The U.S. Forest Service’s approval of mining operations near the Grand Canyon is facing another challenge from environmental groups who say the agency failed to consider relevant costs, according to a notice of appeal filed in an Arizona federal court.

The Forest Service said the Canyon Mine, owned by Energy Fuels Resources Inc., had a valuable uranium deposit and that operations weren’t barred by the Department of the Interior’s order withdrawing public lands in the area from new mining claims.
