Canadian Snow Crab Fishers Still Hurting Whales, Audit Finds

Canada’s billion-dollar snow crab harvest has lost a bid to win back its sustainable fishing label after an audit found the industry is harming North Atlantic right whales.

The East Coast fishery is likely to hinder the recovery of endangered whales and keep Canada from meeting its own targets for the whales’ improvement under national endangered species laws, the Marine Stewardship Council, a nonprofit based in London, said March 4.
