Canada’s conservatives will back a price on greenhouse gas emissions in the next election, a sharp turnaround from past policy on climate change.

The Conservative Party of Canada—the main opposition to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberals—will send money to businesses and individuals while seeking a North American-wide price on industrial facilities with U.S. President Joe Biden, leader Erin O’Toole said Thursday.

The party’s new climate plan “will match the emissions reduction being promised by the Trudeau Liberals without the economic disruption their plan will cause,” O’Toole said in a recorded announcement.
