Canada should take new steps to reduce the flow of plastics into the environment, a federal advisory report said Jan. 30.
Macroplastics, items like bags and straws that are larger than 5 millimeters (0.2 inches), harm animals and their habitats, but it’s less clear if microplastics, particles smaller than 5 millimeters, are just as harmful, Environment and Climate Change Canada and Health Canada’s draft science assessment on plastic pollution says.
