Canada Considers Near-Total Ban on Chlorpyrifos Pesticide

Canada is considering a near-total ban on agricultural uses of chlorpyrifos, one of the most widely used insecticides in the country.

The Pest Management Regulatory Agency has given the public and industry until the end of August to comment on the possible ban. Canadian regulators are proposing the ban after a scientific research review found most current chlorpyrifos uses posed too high a risk to arthropods, birds, mammals, and all aquatic life, the Health Canada branch said in a recent notice.
