California’s Plastic Straw Ban Could Extend to Cups, Condiments

A state ban on straws, unless specifically requested by customers, could extend to other single-use items, including chopsticks, condiments, cups, and napkins, under a bill passed by the California Assembly on Tuesday.

The measure (A.B. 1276), which now heads to the state Senate, would apply to full-service restaurants and online delivery services like GrubHub, Uber Eats, and DoorDash. The single-use items would be distributed if asked for specifically by customers, or if offered by the food outlet to prevent spills or help transport the food safely.
