California’s Imperial Irrigation District Seeks
New Restoration Plan for Salton Sea

LOS ANGELES—The Imperial Irrigation District’s board of directors Feb. 1 passed a resolution calling on California to identify a “more credible and realistic” restoration plan for the Salton Sea than the one currently under consideration.

The action has the practical effect of withdrawing the district’s stated support for the $8.9 billion preferred alternative proposed by the California Resources Agency in 2007.

The resolution said the preferred alternative is “neither credible, feasible nor financially realistic” and called on California to fund and confect a restoration plan that “makes plain the mitigation of air impacts and preservation of habitat as the most ...
