California’s High Court to Hear 30-Year-Old Case of DDT Cleanup

A chemical manufacturer on the hook for contaminating coastal areas around Los Angeles with the pesticide DDT wants to stack up more than 115 insurance policies to cover environmental liabilities.

The California Supreme Court will hear oral arguments Jan. 7 in the case that dates back to 1990, and pits insurers against Montrose Chemical Corp. The company manufactured DDT at a plant in Torrance, Calif., from 1947 to 1982.
