California’s plan to build two massive tunnels to supply Southern California with water from the northern part of the state was withdrawn from the Delta Stewardship Council Dec. 7, raising questions about the project’s future.

The independent Delta Stewardship Council had been set to vote next week on whether the $17 billion WaterFix project was consistent with a long-term management plan for the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Bay Delta. But the California Department of Water Resources director withdrew the plan from consideration.
