California restaurants should drop their lawsuit to block a first-in-the-nation natural gas ban in new construction, environmental groups said Wednesday in an appeal to the California Restaurant Association.
Berkeley, Calif., last summer banned natural gas infrastructure in newly constructed buildings beginning in 2020, over the restaurant industry’s objections. San Jose, Calif., weeks later became the largest city in the nation to ban new gas hookups. Building electrification, proponents argue, is essential for the state to meet its greenhouse gas reduction goals by 2030 and 2050.
