California OKs 50% Recycled Content Rule for Plastic Bottles

Plastic bottles sold in California will have to be made with 50% recycled content by 2030 under a bill signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom Thursday.

The bill sets a phased-in timeline and is the first law in the nation requiring recycled materials in plastic beverage bottles, said Assembly member Phil Ting (D), who authored the bill with Assembly member Jacqui Irwin (D).
