California May Add Earlier Electric Vehicle Goals for Pickups

Pickup trucks could be included in California’s first-in-the-nation plans to set zero-emission sales goals by 2024 for medium- and heavy-duty trucks, a state environmental official said Thursday.

California has some of the worst air quality in the nation and 41% of emissions come from the transportation sector, the California Air Resources Board says.

Pickups likely would be part of any 2024 goals to reflect desires by the air board, Tony Brasil, its transportation and clean technology branch chief, said at a workshop on the proposed rules.
