California Lawmakers Oppose EPA Funding for Tunnels Project

The EPA should deny $1.6 billion in low-cost loans for an ambitious California project to make water infrastructure more resilient to earthquakes, climate change, and flooding, nine California senators and assembly members said.

The project, known as WaterFix, has been in the works for a decade and is supported by agricultural groups and outgoing Gov. Jerry Brown (D), but it faces heavy opposition from environmental groups, some politicians, and others.
