California County Barred From Enforcing Groundwater Ban, For Now

A California county will remain barred from enforcing its ordinances to cut off water for illegal marijuana operations, a federal judge said, even though the county made some changes that reduce the chance that people in a minority community will go without water.

One of the ordinances adopted by Siskiyou County, Calif., in 2021 requires permits for groundwater extraction of water for use offsite. The other ordinance requires permits for groundwater transportation by truck.
