California Considers Solar Panel Mandate for New Homes (1)

Solar panels would be required for new homes built in California beginning in 2020 if the state Energy Commission approves proposed revisions to its building standards May 9.

California would be the first state to mandate solar photovoltaic systems on new homes. The measure is expected to boost the state’s rooftop solar power market and push electric power companies to adapt to more homes generating their own electricity on the power grid.
