Calif. Moves Forward With 35-Mile Water Tunnels

July 21, 2017, 11:41 PM

California moved forward its $17.1 billion proposal to re-engineer the state’s key water delivery system.

The Department of Water Resources approved the environmental impact report for the project, called the California WaterFix.

Lawsuits challenging the project are anticipated, a state official said July 21.

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and other water agencies are expected to pay for the project that will build three new water intakes on the Sacramento River and build two 35-mile-long tunnels beneath the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta to move water to farmers and cities.
