Block New Mexico Oil Drilling During Agency Review, Judge Told

A judge should toss certain oil and gas leases in New Mexico or block drilling on those leases while the federal government completes another environmental review, conservation and citizens’ groups say.

Tossing the leases during the Bureau of Land Management’s review achieves the goals of the National Environmental Policy Act, according to the filing in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico. It also conserves judicial resources, Diné Citizens Against Ruining Our Environment, WildEarth Guardians, and two other groups argue.
