BLM’s Utah Oil and Gas Lease Approvals Appealed by Green Groups

Environmental groups will challenge an order allowing the federal government to open new public lands in Utah to oil and gas leasing pending the court-ordered review of alternatives, according to a notice of appeal filed in federal court.

Rocky Mountain Wild, the National Parks Conservation Association, and two other groups argue the Bureau of Land Management’s plan to issue 59 leases in the Uinta Basin for fossil fuel exploration will increase ozone pollution. They seek a more extensive environmental review under the National Environmental Policy Act.
