Bipartisan Carbon Tax Bill Backers Resume Push on House Bill

Florida Reps. Ted Deutch (D) and Francis Rooney (R) resumed their effort Jan. 24 to make their bipartisan carbon tax bill the leading climate legislation in the House in the 116th Congress.

The yet-unnumbered bill is mostly unchanged from the measure the two Floridians introduced in November, during the lame duck session. Their Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act calls for cutting U.S. greenhouse gas emissions 45 percent by 2030 and 90 percent by 2050 from 2016 levels, using a carbon tax initially set at $15 per metric ton.
